Assessments On Competitiveness Of SME Cluster Based Network

The development of SMEs (Small and medium-sized Enterprises) as a cluster basednetwork is a trend of current economy and the extension of "International Division ofLabor" theory. It reflects that the situation of the traditional economy, taking a singleenterprise as the centre, has changed. The base of such trend is the re-cognition of therelationship of enterprise organization and industrial organization. SME cluster basednetworks are not the simple polymerizations of enterprises and the correlative supportorganizations, but they are constructed by massive organisms which have identities andcomplementarities. They have specialized cooperation between each other, they canreinforce the superiorities between each other, so that they have a strong ability tomatch the market economic fluctuation. There are many successful SMEcluster-networks around the world. Zhejiang province is one of the biggest "cluster"provinces containing 519 clusters. These clusters hold an important postion in Zhejiangindustrial economy. The competitive advantage of cluster-networks has attracted theattention of many experts inside and outside China. The function of cluster-networksand their competitiveness has been one of the main factors to regional economicdevelopment.This thesis explains the concept of "SME clutser-network", analyzes its formation,its constructions and functions. After a detailed analysis of the factors that can influencethe SME cluster-network competitiveness, this thesis builds up a scoring-system of theSME cluster-network competitiveness including strength, Energy, potential andFascination. Factor analysis and AHP analysis are used to score the competitiveness in 6cluster-networks selected from textile and garment industry in Zhejiang province.From the process and the results of the assessment, it can be seen that the scoring-system has some meanful practical usages. It is able to reflect thecompetitiveness of the 6 samples in 2 selected industries reasonably. Additionally, thisthesis also discusses the reasons of the results, which can be used as reference for futurestudies.
