Raising live pigs has come to be the pillar of livestock farming in Huaiyin Districtin recent years, which helps supply shopping baskets of urban and rural residents andpromote the rural economy. In the course of development of raising live pigs, some usefulexperience and unsolved problems came into being. Based on summarizing experiences andparising problems, a few rationalization proposals for the development of live pig farmingin Huaiyin District are put forward.Some interrelated theories, such as intensification and industrialization of livestockfarming and sustainable agricultural development, were introduced into the concreteanalysis of development of live pig industry. With detailed analysis, a few viewpoints,including expanding the live pig farming to a large scale, making live pig industryenvironmentally benign, and maintaining the way of sustainable development, arepresented here. In this article, in addition of the description of the current state of live pigfarming in Huaiyin District, the favorable and unfavorable factors to the development oflive pig industry were discussed. As a result, some developmental patterns that consist ofGroup farming, custom rearing, encouragement policies, associated management, and so on,are suggested. The importance of industrialization to the development of live pig wasemphasized. On the basis of comprehensive study, the method of further developing livepig industry in Huaiyin District was set that we should make and carry out the policy thatsupports the live pig industry, in an effort to construct a basic and powerful security systemfor the development of live pig industry in Huaiyin district.
