China is the big citrus-producing country, orange as one sort of citrus fruits has deficient competitiveness in domestic&international markets, 80% of domestic consumption for orange depends on import, and the consuming market for import orange in China is nearly occupied by U. S. & Brazil. The small amount of China's orange are exported to the Asia, the foreign trade deficit is severe. According to the WTO agreement, tariff & some discriminatory trade measures should be lessen step by step, even be cancelled completely. China is entering into the global free & fair trade environment. At that time, the orange's import tariff in China will be lower, and the non-tariff barriers will be abolished completely, which will bring huge challenge for the development of China's orange. So it has the theoretical and practical significances of analyzing the intemational competitiveness of China's orange.This dissertation applies Intemational Trade,Intemational Economics,Consumer Economics and other Economics theories, taking the principle of history & logic and adopting various methods, such as the combination of Macro analysis & Micro analysis, the combination of quantitative & qualitative analysis, problem-bringing forward, problem-analyzing & problem-solving, from theories to practices.The dissertation is composed of 8 chapters. ChapterⅠ, in the preface, the purpose and significance of carrying out the present research are clarified; the recent development of the research in this area at home and abroad is synthesized; the basic clue, research methods and structure of the dissertation are expounded; the main value and deficiencies are introduced. ChapterⅡ, relative theories of the intemational competitiveness of agricultural products establish the theoretical base of the dissertation, introducing traditional trade,new trade & competitive advantage theories. ChapterⅢ, introducing the production & consumption of China's orange in domestic, then analyzing the factors which influence the consumption of China's orange. ChapterⅣ, introducing the foreign trade condition of China's orange, including import & export districts,seasons,quantity,prices and sorts. ChapterⅤ, as for the production cost & return of China's orange, comparing the central and western of U. S. with Chongqing & Hubei provinces of China, analyzing the cost & return differences between the two countries, indicating China's orange having the advantage of cost, on the other hand, the advantage reflecting the shortage of sustainable development. ChapterⅥ, collecting relative data, filtering the appraisal models of international competitiveness, setting up the appraisal model for the intemational competitiveness of China's orange. ChapterⅦ, adopting empirical & analytical targets to appraise the international competitiveness of China's orange by comparing China,U. S.,Brazil & Mexico. The result presents China's orange has faint competitiveness, however the competitiveness is stepping up. If China emphasizes more on orange's development, the competitiveness will be high upgraded. ChapterⅧ, putting forward the detailed counter-measures & suggestions at the end of the dissertation, according to the fore-study's analyses.
