With the development of economy globalization and internationalcommunication, the demand for interdisciplinary talents increases. More and moreuniversities consider undergraduate bilingual teaching as important content in thereform of higher education. Tourism industry, which is closely foreign-related, hasbeen extended to fields of tourism education to obtain more prominent competitiveadvantages. Higher tourism education in China also faces unprecedented pressure ofmarket with the dynamic of industry development. To cultivate new-typed bilingualtalents with better specific knowledge structure, higher language level and competentcross-culture communication ability, is the only path for tourism industry to obtain,maintain and expand competition advantages in the new competitive environment,and to relieve the competition pressure. In this paper, the author carries out anelementary research to bilingual teaching in higher tourism management educationfrom the view of practicing and looks forward to optimizing the project.At first, this paper introduces the definition of bilingual teaching, the status quoof abroad and domestic bilingual teaching. The second chapter states the theory basisof bilingual teaching, which includes linguistics, pedagogy and psychology basis. Thethird chapter introduces the curriculum design for bilingual teaching in tourismmanagement, emphasizes necessity of the practice of bilingual teaching in highertourism management education, key factors to the development of bilingual teaching,principles to follow and evaluation system. The fourth chapter analyses existingproblems in bilingual teaching of higher tourism management education. The fifthchapter proposes countermeasures against the existing problems in China's bilingual teaching of higher tourism management education.
