VA(Value Analysis) is used to provide the high- value products by rationalizing the function and costs. The purpose of it is to improve the benefit of economy and technology of enterprise. VA is used in product design to redesign the function of product through analyzing the function which including function defining, function settling and function appraising. In practice, VA pays attention to the practical function of product, and always ignores the added value which is considered by industrial design. The added value includes esthetics, human and enginery, sensibility and so on. With regard to this situation , the article discusses the applying of VA on industrial design, and demonstrates the value in VA and added value having the identity. Through introducing the added value into the category of VA, the article discussing the ways to improving the added value of product and discusses the ways to appraise the added value.The article includes four chapters. In the first chapter, the article discusses the background, purpose and significance of this study.The second chapter discusses the origin and development, basic conception, applying processes of VA and so on.The study on application in industrial design of VA is placed in the third chapter. This chapter analyses the status quo and existing questions of VA applying on product design. It analyses the reasons of the fact and gives the ways to solve it. Accordingly, added value is introduced in this chapter. In the end of this chapter the article discusses the definitions and the critical values of added value. From the point of VA, this chapter discusses the costs of getting the added value of products.In the forth chapter, the main content is discussing how to improve the effect of VA in product design. The final purpose of paying costs in added value is to enhance the competitive power of products. The costs in added value is worthwhile or not, the key lies in that the added value of products is recognized by the target consumer or not. To raise the added value of products we can use various means and methods, the article discusses this question from the technology, emotion, culture, brands, services and so on. And the article discusses the question on appraising the added value of products.
