Influencing Factors Analysis And Case Study Based 3G Market Opportunity

3rd Generation Mobile Communication System has been a newly developed technology and has drawn great attention currently. How should the Chinese mobile network operators apply this technology properly?This thesis first analyzes the differences among 2G, 2.5G and 3G on the basis of the present situations of domestic and foreign market. It emphasizes the high speed of 3G technology in the data transmission and elaborates the management environment of Chinese wireless communications industry by means of PEST. It points out that the increasing demand on the communication leads to the development of wireless data service, which is predicted as the core of the future competition. This thesis analyzes the effects of various factors constraining the development of 3G technology. It explores the reasons of the update of 3G technology and its effects. It expresses the great market opportunity in wireless data service brought by the application of the 3G technology after researching the successful cases of the mobile network operators in Korea and Japan. By combining the industry chain theory and the industry environment, it inspects the effects of the old technology from the view of industry ecosystem. This thesis then elaborates the market opportunity of 3G technology by analyzing the case of China Unicom and comparing it to its competitor, China Mobile. Accordingly, it presents the current strategies for China Unicom to enter into the field of 3G technology.
