A Study Of Regional Economic Competitiveness

Regional economic competitiveness attracts attentions from scholars as well as from others. More and more people agree that, to accelerate the development of the regional economy, it is very important to improve the competitiveness of regional economy. However, what does it mean-the competitiveness of regional economy? How do we analyze the competitiveness qualitatively or quantitatively?To answer these questions, this paper first summarizes the foundation of the regional economic competitiveness theory and bring forward a new frame of competitiveness of regional economy evaluation system; Then the paper introduces the analytic approaches Principle Component Analysis, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Cluster Analysis and uses Principle Component Analysis to demonstrate the distribution characteristics and developing trends of the economic competitiveness at the province level between Hubei Province and Other Central Area of China in 2005; At last , The paper draws a conclusion that , Hubei is in the second place in Central Area of China.The paper researches and analyzes systematically on how to establish an evaluation index system on regional economic competitiveness and uses the statistic software SPSS to calculate the competitiveness index. Empirical study and comparative analysis are used in this study. According to the evaluation index system, we can see the advantage and weakness of Hubei Province, and a development strategy is proposed for Hubei, based on in depth analysis of the economic competitiveness of Hubei Province.
