| According to the regional competitiveness, the new international division of labor is carried on. Regional competitiveness has become an important indicator to measure realistic and future competitiveness of a region. In China, as the central government and local governments at all levels strengthen the capacity and preparedness of economic regulation, how to promote regional economy to develop rapidly has become the common goal that all levels of government must make unremitting efforts to achieve. Meanwhile, with the deepening of economic globalization, competition among various regions is getting more intense. How to win in the competition is the challenge that all levels of government must face. The essence of the regional development is to gain advantages in the competition with rivals, which is a process of formation and development of regional competitiveness. So to enhance the regional competitiveness is becoming an important problem that each region has to face and solve.This paper attempts to combine theoretical analysis and empirical research and take appraisal of the regional competitiveness as a research core, meanwhile, and to research on strategies of upgrading Shandong Province's regional competitiveness. On basis of the IMD research frame, this paper summarizes other evaluation indicator systems, improves evaluation indicator system of regional competitiveness and uses the new evaluation indicator system to appraise regional competitiveness and construct the comprehensive evaluation function. This paper takes Shandong Province as an example to carry on empirical analysis and explore strategies to enhance regional competitiveness. This paper is structured as follows:The first chapter is introduction. This part discusses the background and the significance of the study of the problem, and then has made the summaries to each kind of the research of regional competitiveness at home and abroad. The second chapter is a summary of the theoretical basis for regional competition. It includes of absolute and comparative advantages theory, competitive advantage theory, regional economics theory, comparative economics theory, technical disparity theory, innovation theory, new growth theory and new system economics theory.The third chapter is the description of the definition and features of the regional competitiveness. According to the theoretical basis for the regional competitiveness, this part summarizes each kind of definition and gives the definition to the regional competitiveness.The fourth chapter describes the establishment of the evaluation indicator system of regional competitiveness and the construction of comprehensive evaluation function. According to systematic principle, scientific principle, practical principle and comparable principle, on basis of the IMD research frame, this part summarizes advantages and disadvantages of various indicator systems to construct a new evaluation indicator system of regional competitiveness. Finally, this part constructs the comprehensive evaluation function based on principal component analysis.The fifth chapter describes the computation process as well as to the real diagnosis result and carries on the analysis of present situation of Shandong Province's regional competitiveness. Firstly, through SPSS software, this part uses the method of principal component analysis to appraise the regional competitiveness of various provinces and cities in china. And then this part calculates scores of various provinces and cities in china and ranks according to scores. 31 provinces and cities are divided into 4 levels according to competitiveness strength. Finally, we discuss the present situation of Shandong Province's regional competitiveness and try to find advantages and disadvantages of Shandong Province compared with other provinces and cities. The last chapter produces strategies which can upgrade regional competitiveness of the Shandong Province according to the results of real diagnosis analysis. |
