With the coming of knowledge economy eve, more and more firms have realized the strategic value of intellectual property. Living in the shell of state's monopoly policy, Chinese tobacco industry lacks experience of market competition or intellectual property protection. However , facing the globalizing economic environment and an ever-challenging market, Chinese tobacco enterprises have to rely on continuous innovations and intellectual property strategy to rejuvenate Chinese national tobacco industry. So it is necessary to research on the intellectual property strategy of Chinese tobacco companies.In the knowledge economy eve, the intellectual property resource plays more and more important role in the development of company. The competition among companies is more and more relying on the acquirement and utilization of intellectual property, which need the guidance of intellectual property strategy. And the application of intellectual property strategy could bring many competition advantages to tobacco companies.Since the establishment of Chinese tobacco group, the tobacco system has paid more attention to the technology work, achieving some advances. But the competition between foreign MNCs and domestic tobacco companies becomes more and more fierce. The intellectual property management level of domestic tobacco companies is still very low, lacking intellectual property idea and investment, which leads to the scarcity of own intellectual property.Based on the theory of strategy management and core competence, the paper analyzes the current situation and future tendency of intellectual property in tobacco industry home and abroad at first. The paper then analyzes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Chinese tobacco industry under the guidance of SWOT analysis. The paper also puts forward the strategy of tobacco enterprises under the globalization situation and the management system of intellectual property.
