In the recent few years, economic globalization has a strong impact on the urban system of various regions and countries. On one hand, globalization courses the change of space economic structure and the restructure of world urban systems. The space economic structure changes from industry chain to a value chain structure. On the other hand, more and more progress of regions and countries has been brought into the global economic network. The rivalry between these countries often present between regions and cities. The global competitive advantage of cosmopolis and the surrounding town compact districts is a critical component of the country's integrate competitive advantage.This paper is to study the cause and effect of globalization regarding the industry restructuring and the evolvement of urban function in Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou, using the multivariable methods of correlation analysis, main factor analysis, cluster analysis and so on. Firstly, estimate the effect of economic globalization for Nantong, Yangzhou and Taizhou by the global index, analyzing different factors, especially the foreign direct investment and the evolution of international trade. At the same time, find the position of these cities in the entire Yangtze River Delta urban system by comparing the global index with other cities in the system. Then, judge the position of these cities in the evolution of the Yangtze River Delta urban system by analyzing the industry structure evolution. Finally, verify how the three case cities had been brought into the "Global value chain", and how it causes the economic development of these cities by looking at the characteristics of typical industries in the cities.
