Research On Countermeasures Of The Development Of Tourism For People With Disabilities In China

People with disabilities have the right and do desire to enjoy tourism. But tourism is still a big challenge for many individuals with disabilities, they have to overcome more barriers in travel than their counterparts without disabilities. Tourism for people with disabilities has gained rapid development and comes into certain scale. According to the Second Sampling Survey of People With Disabilities in China, there are 82 million and 96 thousand people have some kinds of disabilities. Besides, China is hosting the 2008 Olympics Games and Paralympics Games in Beijing which will attract many travelers with disabilities from abroad to come to China. Those people at home and from abroad represent a large potential market to China' s tourism industry. Hence, tourism for people with disabilities becomes a new research realm in China urgently.There are many kinds of disabilities. People with different kinds of disabilities have different needs and encounter different barriers in tourism. This thesis conducted researches on travelers with physical disabilities who have difficulty walking.There are many people with disabilities in China, but travelers with disabilities are rarely seen in China. Relevant statistic data and information about tourism for people with disabilities in China are lacking. This thesis synthetically adopted several methods such as second data analysis, online survey and In-depth Interview to investigate the status quo of tourism for people with disabilities in China. Several problems were found, such as People with disabilities encounter many barriers in tourism, tourism facilities are insufficient, prices of tourism product for people with disabilities are often too high, travel information for people with disabilities are lacking.Tourism for people with disabilities from abroad has a comparatively longer history that have gained some experience. The good practice and experience that China should learn are Comprehensive lex is powerful safeguard to tourism for people with disabilities, Barrier-free tourism facilities are premises to tourism for people with disabilities, abundant in barrier-free tourism information provision is the foundation of tourism for people with disabilities, professionals in tourism for people with disabilities are driving forces to tourism for people with disabilities.To develope tourism for people with disabilities in China, several measures should be taken into account such as boosting the legislation on the travel rights of people with disabilities, to spread propaganda on tourism for people with disabilities in the whole society, increasing the tourism purchase power of people with disabilities, improving the tourism service for people with disabilities and strengthening the collecting and disseminating of tourism information for people with disabilities in China.
