The Study On The Influence On The Operating Efficiency Of Chinese Banks By Introducing Foreign Strategic Investors

Finance is the core of modern economy. As a main body of financial industry, banking is in the prominent position in the reform strategy of financial system in our country. The purpose of a series of banking reforms in our country is to change the traditional property right and management mechanism fundamentally, improve the lag of corporate governance, intensify market constraints in banks, enhance the competitiveness of Chinese banks and respond to the challenge from foreign banks. Domestic banks have introduced foreign strategic investors in recent years. The range of introduction of foreign strategic investors in Chinese banking has expanded from city commercial bank, joint-stock commercial bank to state-owned commercial bank ever since the Asia Development Bank became a shareholder of China Everbright Bank. With the overall opening of Chinese banking market in 2006, more domestic banks will introduce foreign strategic investors to enhance core competitiveness and reply to complicated environment of competition which make the behavior of introducing of foreign strategic investors in Chinese banking become the focus of financial field. Based on this background, the dissertation will study the introduction of foreign strategic investors in Chinese banking.The dissertation first of all analyzed the theory of introduction of foreign strategic investors by Chinese banking. Then it expatiated on the international experience and domestic practice, which was the basis of analyzing the necessity and feasibility of introduction of foreign strategic investors. Based on the analysis, the dissertation concluded the path of influence of foreign strategic investors on the operating efficiency in Chinese banking. After that, the dissertation made an empirical study on the effect of introduction of foreign strategic investors in Chinese banking from two aspects. On one hand, it vertically compared the difference in profitability, management capacity and operation risks between banks which have introduced the foreign strategic investors and which haven't. On the other hand, it horizontally analyzed the influence on the operation efficiency of banks which have introduced the foreign strategic investors. The result showed that the length of time and share ratio had relations with the improvement of operating efficiency and as a consequence, the asset quality and profitability were enhanced. At last, based on the result of empirical study and the negative effect which the introducing of the foreign strategic investors might bring, the dissertation put forward the relative supporting measures and suggestions on the foreign strategic investor from the points of banks and government in order to improve the introducing system...
