Study Of Stone Industry's History Of Nan'an City In Fujian Province

At present, China is the world's largest stone consumer, producer and trading country. In the domestic market, it has already formed four big stone material bases including Nan'an city in Fujian province, Laizhou city in Shangdong province, Yunfu city in Guangdong province and Ya'an city in Sichuan province. Among them, the stone material industry of Nan'an City has occupied above 45% at the aspect of the national annual production and exportation in 2005. There are more than 510 stone enterprises in Shuitou town in Nan'an city which is called as "the stone material city in China", the annual pruduction capacity of this town is up to 50,000,000 square meters, which can meet the 30% demand of the country each year. So Nan'an City really becomes the biggest stone material city in China. The stone industry in Nan'an city has developed so rapidily and internationally that it became the principal industry of the city, as a result, it promotes local pottery, plumbing equipment, and other related material industries, and make the local tertiary industry prosper. in 2005 Nan'an City reached the GDP value of 24.3 billion yuan, the total revenue of 16 billion yuan, and ranked the top 100 cities in China.Now it is a critical period of economy development for most of the counties in China. The most urgent issue for above 2800 counties in the central and western regions facing to resolve is how to rely on local resources and advantages, according to local conditions to embark on a path of special economy. For all above, this paper researches the development history and successful experience of the Stone industry in Nan'an City, and extracts the "relying on the local character" developing model and empowers the model with new meaning. On the one hand, this can promote economy development of Nan'an city, on the other hand, this brings inspiration for the other underdeveloped areas.In this paper, the research of the stone industry history of Nan'an bases on rigorous scientific attitude, and applies the knowledge learned from history. Firstly, this paper summarizes the developing history of stone industry in Nan'an City. It delineates four stages of the developing history, such as origin stage, rise stage, development stage and updating stage in the context of Chinese reform and opening up period. Secondly, the analysis concludes the developing experience and shortcomings in Nan'an Stone industry, it also finds out the reason why the local stone industry became the principal industry. Finally, it makes some suggestions with a view to enhance the country's economic competitiveness for other stone industry bases on China's central and western regions.
