The Research On China's Regional Difference In Mode Of Technology

China is a large country with large economic difference between different regions. The technology level and resource endowment are unbalanced in different regions. Therefore, each region should choose its own mode of technology progress according to its technology level and resource endowment. First, this paper analyzes the determinant factors that determine the regional mode choosing of technology progress, which concludes that the regional mode is determined by regional innovation ability and the absorbing ability to imported technology. Regional innovation ability involves technology infrastructure and R&D input. The absorbing ability to imported technology involves technology gap, human capital and the opening degree of trade. Second, by analyzing the current situation of each region, the paper comes to the result that regional innovation ability and the absorbing ability to imported technology in different regions have large difference, so there should be difference in the choice of mode of technology progress. After that a qualitative estimation about the modes of different regions is done. Then, to test the correctness of the estimation, a empirical analysis is done using the provincial panel data of China between 2000 and 2006, the conclusion of which is almost consistent with the estimation: the unbalanced development of regional economy in china causes the distinct difference in the main mode of technology progress. The eastern region mainly depends on innovation, the middle region mainly depends on importing technology in which importing high-tech products plays the most important part, while the western region should rely on innovation and technology importing. As a result, the economic and technological policies should focus on the regional difference in the mode of technology progress in the process to construct"innovation country"and coordinate the development of regional economies.
