Textile and apparel industry is one of the important mainstay industry in China's economy and textile and garment trade has an very significant status in China's foreign trade. Since foreign reform and opening, textile and apparel had always been the biggest commondity of China, although since 1996, mechanical and electric product has become the biggest export commondity of China ahead of textile and apparel, at present textile and apparel is still the biggest commondity in foreign trade surplus. It is very important for the construction of the country economy, accumulating foreign exchange, improving employment. As almost the several countries of the Asean carry out export orientation tactics, the textile and apparel industry has been developed vigorously, and the trade of textile and apparel become an important issue. As the second largest export commodity, Thailand has gained 6 billion dollars in 2005; and as the most important export commodity besides petroleum and natural gas, the textile industry in Indonesia has developed rapidly; and the textile and apparel also has become one of the industries that can get most foreign exchange by foreign trade since twenty ninetieth.As an significant market for both China and Asean, the export of textile and apparel of these two areas to Japan both have very big proportions. Japan has been the biggest market of China in textile and garment during 2000 to 2003, also it has been always important for China. Japan is one of the most important markets of Asean in textile and apparel. China and Asean have a lot in common in the industrial grades, the natural and essential endowments, they also both mainly export low end apparel to Japan, so their competition in the market of Japan is comparative severity. Japan is the market has no quotas among the primary markets of China, Hence, the Japanese market for textiles and apparel provides a test case for what might happen under quota-free trade.Therefore finding out the development and actuality of China's ,Japan's and Asean's textile industry, and the textile and apparel trade between China and Japan, Asean and Japan, the factors that infect their competition, make sure the problems in the industry development, it's very necessary for both the development of the textile and apparel industry and trade. Based on the relates statistics, this dissertation analyzed positively on the actuality of the textile and apparel industry of China, Japan and Asean, trade between China and Japan, Asean and Japan, and the competition of China's textile and apparel in Japan. This dissertation includes 5 parts.The first part introduces briefly on the significance and method of the research, current research situation and the creation of the dissertation.The second part introduces the development of China' s, Japan's and Asean's textile industry and the actuality of the textile and apparel trade between China and Japan, Asean and Japan.The third part induces the history and actuality of the export of China and Asean to Japan, and the influence of Japan's investment to these two areas.The fourth part adopts Net Exports, Market Share and "Revealed" Comparative Advantage to respectively analyze the competition of China and Asean of Japan's textile and apparel, and analyzing the reasons of the increase in the textile and garment export to Japan.The fifth part discusses the problems of China's textile and apparel export to Japan, introduces the friction of the textile and garment trade between China and Japan and based on the the actuality of the textile and garment export to Japan and problems,puts forward the suggestions that China and Asean should improve cooperation and suggestions for advancing the development of China's textile and garment export to Japan.
