At the end of World War II, US-Soviet alliance collapsed. The former allies became rivals. With the formation of Cold War, the U.S. policy towards China was taken into American Global strategy. The United States carried out the policy of supporting Chiang Kai-shek and opposing the Communists, and it attempted to help Chiang Kai-shek gain Chinese regime, and hoped China could safeguard its interests in the Far East. After People's Republic of China established, the United States changed its policy towards China, and implemented a non-hostile policy; it carried out a policy of limited trade embargo against China, which was used to influence China so that it could separate China from Soviet Union. However, Korean War broke out in 1950, and then Chinese People's Volunteers supported North Korea, which prompted the United States to alter its policy towards China. The United States transferred its limited trade embargo into total trade embargo. Trade embargo against China undermined the interests of American allies, and aroused the dissatisfaction with the allies; meanwhile it brought tremendous impact on both China and the United States.
