This article deals with the influence of population density on the development level of tertiary industry because from this angle you can find a way to enhance the tertiary industry especially during the time of society transformation from industry to service. By way of collecting data from home and abroad and processing them through SPSS, this article analyzed the influence of population density on service output value ratio, service employment ratio, service product per capita, and service density. Then, this article deepened into some specific industries in tertiary industry and analyzed the influence of population density on them. Finally, combining all levels of research, this article made a general conclusion and proposed some suggestions. With the help of some research tools, this article reaches five conclusions as follows: 1 Population density influences service density most, then service product per capita, and then service output value ratio; it influences service employment ratio lease. 2 There exists an optimum population density before which the development level of tertiary industry goes up with the rise of population density and after which the development level of tertiary industry display a trend of going down with the rise of population density. 3 On the country level, large population density does not necessarily lead to high level of tertiary industry, but when tick off all differences between countries, generally speaking, high population density can ensure a high level of tertiary industry; And as to one country during different times, population density goes up, so does the development level of tertiary industry. 4 On the city level, population density and development level of tertiary industry goes up hand by hand; during different times of one city, when population density is high, the development level of service is high too. 5 As to some specific service industries, when population density goes up, the employment ratio of traditional service industries first goes up and then goes down and the output value ratio goes up steadily while the employment ratio of newly rising service industries first goes down and then goes up and the output value ratio goes up gradually with slow pace.
