Study On Competitiveness And Complementarity Of Agricultural Products Trade Between China And Australia

Agriculture plays a very important role both in China and Australia, and also the main part of CAFTA(China-Australia Free Trade Agreement).There is a big difference between China and Australia on resource gift, China main produce labor force intensity agricultural products,whereas Australia main produce natural resources intensity products.We know that there is a big complementarity in the agricultural products trade,so trade between China and Australia will expand quickly.China and Australia subscribed "Framework Agreement on Trade Economic"on October,2003,which indicated the start-up of foundation process of CAFTA, thus China will be the fifth free-trade partner of Australia.The negotiation of FTA was launched on April 18^th,2005,and the tenth rounds of the neogotiations have proceeded until December,2007.The negotiation have discussed how to cancel the trade barriers and made a great progress.It is hoped that the eleven rounds of the neogotiations will process in Beijing on April,2008, and try to eliminate the obstacles that hinder the last round negotiation and lay down "Route Chart" in order to promote negotiation,so the agricultural trade will have a big development.During this special time, to analysize the structure of the agricultural trade of China and Australia is a very pressing issue. So as to find out the factor of enlarge the agricultural trade, reduce China trade deficit and impove our exports of agricultural products to Australia market is a significance we pay attention to, and this is also the purpose of my research.In this recearch, the writer firstly analysis the foreign trade status of agricultural products in China and Australia,then made up a index system of competitiveness and complementarity,such as RCA,Cij,TSC,and subsequently analyzed the factors of affecting Chinese export of agricultural products to Australia market, lastly the writer issued some suggestions for China to expand the Australia agricultural market.The result of research indicates that complementarity trade is the main mode in bilateral trade between Chinese and Australia,for example,row hide and leather,wool, vegetable,but some agricultural products also have certain competitiveness,for example,fish,crustaceans and cereals.Otherswise,Trade is restricted by trade barrier and so on.With the construction of CAFTA, China and Australia trade barrier will be eliminated gradually,and the potential of mutural agricultural product trade will be expand gradually.
