China and ASEAN have expedited the steps of regional economy cooperation in recent years. In November of 2001, the leader of China and ASEAN decided to set up CAFTA (China-ASEAN free trade area) within the future ten years, and a year later the both leaders officially subscribed "Framework Agreement On Comprehensive Economic Co-Operation between ASEAN and China "(hereinafter named "Framework Agreement"), which indicated the start-up of cooperation process of CAFTA in due form, and that the economic cooperation in the two regions had entered in to a new development period.Agriculture plays a very important role in China and ASEAN, and also is the main part of CAFTA. Both China and ASEAN are the countries of rich natural resources and labors with the basically same developing steps, which decides that there is competition of agricultural products' export to the third market in the both countries.Compared with ASEAN, what about the competitiveness and complemetarity of China's agricultural products is? The problem becomes more and more important with the coming construction of CAFTA. The agricultural trade will be affected greatly and develop quickly with the subscription of "Framework Agreement" and the implement of Agricultural "Early Harvest" scheme between China and Thailand. During this special time, to analysize the structure of the agricultural trade of China and ASEAN is a very pressing issue, so as to find a way to impove our exports of agricultural products to ASEAN market, and this is also the significance of my research. In this research, the writer firstly analyzed the status and characteristic of agricultural products' trade in China and ASEAN, and made up a theory and index system of competitiveness and complementarity, then on such condition analyzed the competitiveness and complementarity of agricultural products' trade in China and ASEAN, and subsequently analyzed the factors of affecting Chinese export of agricultural products to ASEAN market, and the effect of setting up CAFTA, lastly the writer issued some suggestions for China to expand the ASEAN agricultural market. The result of research indicates that there is the competition of agricultural trade between China and ASEAN, however, the product category of complementary is more than that of competition. With the construction of CAFTA, the mutural agricultural trade between China and ASEAN will be exlarged, but increase scale will be restricted by the factor of culture and so on.
