Commercial mortars have some advantages such as stable quality, high construction efficiency, product serialization , composite properties, pilot-scale production, and so on, therefore, under current situation of energy-saving and emission reduction, it is the main development direction of construction mortar industry, and is advocated in our country. In Chongqing, most of construction mortar is prepared on-site, and the fine Aggregate mainly comes from superfine sand with high mud content and low fineness modulus, so cracking, bulging, slough and leakage have become the poor-quality symptoms in the masonry mortar and plaster mortar engineering. Developing high performance dry-mixed mortar will be a hotspot in the near future.In this paper, firstly, the development experience, technical ways, and future trend of commercial mortar home and abroad were profoundly analyzed. Secondly, the main problems existing in the production, construction and application of construction mortar industry in Chongqing were surveyed, and the viability of generalizing commercial mortar in Chongqing was discussed. The results show that the conditions of developing commercial mortar such as policy, market, technique and resources have been mature in Chongqing. Its developing path is advised as following: at early stage, some special dry-mixed mortar with high technology quality and high additional value such as bonding tiles mortar, the matching bonding mortar and cracking resistance mortar for exterior thermal insulation system are popularized, high performance dry-mixed mortar technology system is established, and then broad popularization is gradually realized.According to the sand resources characteristics which mainly come from fine sand, bonding ceramic tiles mortar is selected as an example, and superfine sand dry-mixed mortar is prepared. by modification with water- retentive agents and organic bonding admixtures, one dry-mixed superfine sand mortar used as ceramic tile bonding was prepared with good workability, adhesive capacity and climate resistant. The test results indicate that this mortar has some excellent performances such as good sagging resistant, little slippage amount less than 2mm, sufficient open time and bonding strength over 1 MPa after opening for 10 minutes, which meets the need of thin construction of ceramic tile bonding. By addition of polypropylene fiber, one flexible mortar with good crack resistant used as ceramic tile bonding was prepared. Applications in lots of practical projects show that the technical and economic properties of this mortar are far superior to that of traditional bonding mortar. Its application foreground is very wide and is hopeful to substitute the traditional bonding mortar.
