There were plentiful coal resources in ShanXi province since ancient times, as early as the Han Dynasty ,the people had mined for coal manually .This paper put emphasis on coal mining scale of ShanXi province in Qing Dynasty ,the mining technology ,the government attitude for coal mining ,and how the coal utilization effect the local people life level, and the development of local handicrafts ,try to explore the relationship between the coal industry and the local economy.On this basis, the paper make effort to find out some large-scale coal mining field of ShanXi province in Qing Dynasty. Furthermore, the relationship between Qing Dynasty coal mining field and modern coal field, was been discussed.The first chapter focus on Qing Dynasty government policy for coal industry development ,and how this policy effect coal industry in ShanXi province ,in order to introduce the historical background, and enable readers to realize a comprehensive knowledge of the social environment. Chapters II specifically on the coal's mining condition and the coal's utilization in Qing Dynasty . chapter III put emphasis on the coal industry's effect to the local economics.On this basis, the next few chapters focus on the government's tax-management, the restrictive factors for coal industry development, and the inheritance ,development of the coal mining industry between the Qing Dynasty and the MingGUO period.There were few specialized books or papers researching the Qing Dynasty coal industry, therefore, the main difficulty lies in the historical data collection. There was six months to collect historical material before writing, so, the paper maybe achieve a breakthrough for this theme.
