| Since the 1960s, with the world transforming from industrial economy to service economy, western developed countries have started to enter the stage of "post-industrialized society". In these countries, the service industry has taken a higher percentage of the output value and social employment, strengthening its effect in the national economy and the characteristics of a service economy. At the same time, developing countries, with China as the representative, made great efforts to develop their industries by opening to the world, introducing foreign investment and undertaking the international industrial shift; and stepped into the stage of "industrialization" with an obvious feature of industrialized economy. There must be differences in the output value structures and labor force employment structure variation between countries in different economic development periods. The differences in the industrial structure and the internal structure of the service industry will lead to changes of the relative industrial productivity. In order to explore the characteristics of the changes of industrial structure and the relative industrial productivity in countries in different economic development periods, this dissertation follows the main line of the influence on the relative industrial productivity caused by industrial structure variations, systematically reviews the three changes of the relative industrial productivity in industry and the internal service industry in the USA and China in her economic developing transformation period, and finally summarizes the general rules of changes to provide a theoretic gist for making the service industry developing policy. This dissertation consists of five chapters.Chapter One mainly expounds the definition of relative industrial productivity, research background, research method, research content, the potential innovation of the dissertation and explanations concerned to related questions.Chapter Two systematically induces and organizes the documents in relation to industrial structure variation and relative industrial productivity from abroad and domestic aspects, pointing out the main research contents, research significance and limitations of previous researches.Chapter Three applies varied mathematical statistic methods to analyze the changing trends of the relative industrial productivity in the American industrial and postindustrial periods, of the internal service industry in the USA from 1979 to 2004 and summarizes the general rules of the changing trend in the USA and China.Chapter Four analyzes the three changing trends of the relative industrial productivity since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and compares them with the USA.
