China is the world's largest clothing producer and exporter, clothing industry is China's traditional strengths industry, so clothing production and exports are quite important for its economy. However, China remains in the stage of big clothing country, which has apparent comparative advantage, but no competitive advantage. Therefore, China is not a strong clothing country. Under current international environment, it is meaningful to analyze the current status of China's clothing industry, to measure the extent of its advantages, to study the ways for upgrading its industrial advantages, and to speed up its steps from big clothing country to strong clothing country.This paper analyzes the upgrading of China's clothing industry's international competitiveness mainly in three aspects. First, state the basic theories of comparative advantage and competitive advantage, and its evaluation indexes. Second, measure the comparative advantage of China's clothing industry by Revealed Comparative Advantage Index and Productivity of All Manpower, and its competitive advantage by International Market Share, Trade Competition Index and Micheal E.Porter's Diamond Model, and then analyze the questionaires. The last, propose the upgrading ways of China's clothing industry from comparative advantage to competitive advantage by comparing the results of comparative advantage and competitive advantage.
