With the continuous development of the tourism industry, the impact of tourism has increasingly become issues of concern to the masses of scholars. The social and cultural impact of tourism is another controversial topic after its economic impact. On the early research, most scholars at home and abroad considered that the development of tourism has brought negative impact on the culture, and many scholars deeply grieved for the aroused cultural changes, they defined Tourism as "new colonialism" in the 21st century. But with the deepening of research, people are becoming aware that such a judgment is not comprehensive, thus a number of new ideas are raised for the social and cultural impact of the tourism development. Inevitably, Tourism will bring about social and cultural changes for local communities, how to look at these changes correctly is the important issue for the in-depth development of tourism. As the most profitable group, destination residents'support has decisive significance for the successful development of the tourism industry. However, the previous tourism research has regarded the destinations and tourists as the major subjects in a longer period of time, destination residents have not been paid enough attention to.This paper discusses the background and significance of the impact of tourism on the society and culture, makes comprehensive analysis and conclusion about the relevant references both at home and abroad. Based on this, the combination of theoretical research results at home and abroad, the use of theories and approaches in statistics, social science, cultural anthropology for the evaluation indicators. It does the empirical studies about the social and cultural impact of tourism for the residents in the Grape Valley area of Turpan, and raises countermeasures on the basis of analysis data.The thesis is divided into five parts:(1) Research Review, recalled the history in the field of the social and cultural impact of tourism, summed up the inadequacy in the current study, analyzed the research tendency.(2) Theory and Methods discussion, summed up the previous research methodology and theoretical framework on the tourism perception of the destination residents, and summarized the four major theories.(3) Case studies, on the basis of questionnaire, summed up the tourism perception in this area, and objectively reflected the social and cultural impact brought by the destinations residents for the development of tourism.(4) Comprehensive Evaluation, through empirical study, it found that tourism had both positive and negative impact on the Grape Valley residents. They had positive perception of the social and cultural impact of tourism, still in a great desire for the development of the tourism industry.(5) Countermeasures, on the basis of empirical research of Grape Valley residents, proposed for the regulation and control policies, trying to maximize the control of adverse impact of tourism, meanwhile, promoting the beneficial effects brought by tourism.
