This paper investigates the space structure of different manufacturing industries and their supporting producer services, which is important to construct a new industry cluster centered in producer services and combined with manufacturing industrial chain, to promote the updating of industry structure, adjusting space layout and updating urban functions. However, it lacks of systematic research in an interactive space structure of producer services and manufacturing industries aiming at urban blocks. This paper takes Beijing for instance, applying methods like input-output model, spatial autocorrelation analysis and cluster analysis, to make an empirical research in it. The research proves that,Firstly, the growth of Producer Services features largely in service industries like finance, information and business. The consumption level of intermediary service for Manufacturing is significantly improved. The industry structure of manufacturing is transforming to modern manufacturing industry and urban industry. The intermediate input in modern manufacturing generated by producer services is increased. The demand for intermediate service of Beijing manufacturing is mainly focused in two producer services: the general technical services, leasing and business services.Secondly, the spatial distribution of Beijing manufacturing and supporting producer services differs greatly. Producer services is more concentrated in downtown; while manufacturing is more concentrated in suburbs. From the quantitative indicators, technology-intensive manufacturing mainly locates in the inner suburbs like Haidian and Fengtai district, and the inner edges of outer suburbs like Tongzhou district. Resource-intensive manufacturing mainly locates in the outer suburbs like Tongzhou, Daxing and Fangshan district. While Leasing and Business Service industry significantly concentrates in the inner suburbs of Chaoyang and Haidian district and downtown of Xicheng and Dongcheng district. From the density indicators, technology-intensive manufacturing and general technical services mainly distribute in the inner suburbs like Haidian, Chaoyang district, and downtown like Chongwen and Xuanwu district. Generally speaking, the density indicator of producer services is more centralized.Thirdly, the manufacturing and supporting producer services have significant characteristics of spatial concentration. Both manufacturing and producer services have significant characteristics of spatial concentration respectively, and producer services is more concentrated than manufacturing. Similarly, manufacturing and supporting producer services also have significant characteristics of spatial concentration. The concentration level of manufacturing and neighbouring producer services is higher than producer services and neighbouring manufacturing. Producer services, especially advanced producer services mainly satisfy the requirement of finance and commercial circulation, which is not centralized in manufacturing in space distribution.Fourthly, the characteristics of spatial structure of the producer services and manufacturing in Beijing are as follows: the downtown and inner suburbs are highly concentrated with manufacturing and supporting producer services. The neighbouring downtown and some blocks in the inner suburbs , and government resident blocks in the outer suburbs are spatial heterogeneity district. While the outer suburbs and its outer margin are generally spatial discentralized district.Fifthly, the major manufacturing and supporting producer services in Beijing have a significant characteristics of regional layer structure. From downtown to inner suburbs, to the inner edge of outer suburbs, and to the outer edge of outer suburbs, the regional types in sequence are: leasing and business service industry, general technical service industry, technology-intensive manufacturing, and resource-intensive manufacturing. The regional type of downtown is chiefly leasing and business services. The inner edge of inner suburbs is mixture district of service industry. The outer edge of inner suburbs and the inner edge of outer suburbs are district in technology-intensive manufacturing. The outer suburbs and its outer edge are district in resource-intensive manufacturing.
