A Research On How Strategic Investors Affect The Efficiency Of Chinese Commercial Banks

With the fully liberalization of the banking sector,Chinese banking sector faces enormous competitive pressures.In order to deal with the fierce competition,Chinese government is eager to solve Chinese commercial banks' problems such as low capital adequacy ratio,poor internal controls and weak international competitiveness. An important and effective way is to introduce the strategic investors to Chinese banking industry.However,whether the introduction of strategic investors can improve the efficiency of Chinese commercial banks,at present is a big academic controversy.The author tries to target 14 commercial banks of China,and to research how strategic investors affect the efficiency of Chinese commercial banks through theoretical and empirical analysis.There are five chapters in all.ChapterⅠis the introduction,which introduces the research background,research contents and methods,as well as the structural framework of the essay.ChapterⅡreviews related basic theory,including concepts and measurement methods of bank efficiency,corporate governance theory and the theory of foreign direct investment.Based on the previous theory,ChapterⅢanalyzes the relationship among strategic investors,corporate governance, management and bank efficiency.Then this part brings forward the way in which strategic investors affect bank efficiency.Based on the path model,ChapterⅣputs forward corresponding assumptions,and verifies them one by one through multiple regression analysis.The last Chapter is the summary and advice of the essay.The conclusion is that the introduction of strategic investors can improve the efficiency of Chinese commercial banks.And to some extent it can also improve corporate governance and management of Chinese commercial banks.Besides, strategic investors can enhance bank efficiency by improving corporate governance and human capital.
