The Mergers and acquisitions or strategic alliances of the firms are not just firm-specific. The large waves of the M&As or Alliances in many industries have become industry-level phenomenon. Most firms in a given industry will be subject to similar technological requirements and market dynamics.Different industry conditions have great impact on firms` preference of the external development strategies between M&A or Strategic alliance. In this article, 3 industry-level dimensions will be proposed which lead to 8 different industry conditions, and firm's preference on an industry-level will be discussed theoretically and separately according to the 8 conditions when choosing M&A or alliance. And then the theoretical result will be compared with the real cases in different industry to check if it matches well.
