Study On Competitiveness And Complementarities In Electromechanical Products Trade Of China, Japan And South Korea

In recent years,China,Japan and South Korea have been working to strengthen the Northeastern Asian regional economic cooperation.A conception of establishing "China-Japan-South Korea Free Trade Area" has also aroused a great interest among politicians,businessmen and scholars of the three countries.China,Japan and South Korea are all large traders of electromechanical products and the trade volume of electromechanical products accounts for more than half of the total foreign trade of each country.Japan and South Korea have been China's important trade partners of those products.In electromechanical products trade among the three countries one can perceive a vestige of the so-called "flying geese model". The three countries dovetailed with each other in international division and electromechanical products trade among them has been of a clear complementary nature for some years.However,with China's rapid economic development,the pattern of "flying geese model" has become increasingly blurred.China-Japan and China-South Korea electromechanical products trade have gradually presented competitiveness and such tendency is more and more obvious.How to define China's competitiveness in China-Japan and China-South Korea bilateral electromechanical products trade compared with Japan and South Korea? How to understand the complementary structure in China-Japan and China-South Korea bilateral electromechanical products trade? Those must be questions required to be answered.Along with the continuously strengthened regional economic cooperation among the three countries,there must be an enormous development of China-Japan and China-South Korea electromechanical products trade.At this special time,to study structure and characteristics of electromechanical products trade in China,Japan and South Korea is a very pressing issue.With this study we can grasp the opportunities to further strengthen the regional economic cooperation,to summarize the characters and development tendency of electromechanical product trade among the three countries,to analyze the commodity structures in detail,and to define the promoting factors for expanding the bilateral China-Japan and China-South Korea electromechanical product trade.Consequently,China's electromechanical product export to Japan and South Korea could be effectively increased.This paper firstly analyzes the status and characteristics of electromechanical products trade in China,Japan and South Korea.Then this paper focuses the quantitative analysis of the competitiveness and complementarities in China-Japan and China-South Korea electromechanical products trade by using RCA and C indices. Based on the above analysis some policy suggestions will be proposed to increase China's electromechanical products export to Japan and South Korea.
