The Study On The Efficiency Of Chinese Hotel Industry

The hotel industry has been developed very rapidly in the 30 years of reform opening in China. The industry turned its function from the simplex reception system into the most competitive industry in national economy, and turned its management by experience into scientific management. Along with the globality of economy and many invents, such as the Olympic Games, World's Fair, will lift our country's worldwide famousness, the hotel industry will get another worth development opportunity. Although the hotel industry will be face with the great development opportunity, we should take cognizance of the situation clearly that our hotels will compete against the international famous hotel groups unavoidably. Competition is the required question to every corporation in market economy, and the key answer is efficiency. From the fifties of the twentieth century, scholars started the research on efficiency, and advanced many theories and models about efficiency estimate. Until the 90s, efficiency was introduced into the hotel industry, many scholars penetrating brought many penetrating judgments which aimed at the questions that why hotel's inefficiency and how to advance hotel's efficiency. But less discuss about the developing countries, especially about the countries in reforming period. So, it has multiple meanings if we introduce the efficiency theories into hotel research, and discuss how to improve the hotel efficiency by analyzing the characters of our hotel industry. Based on the development fact, the paper uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to estimate the efficiency of hotels in our country, and builds the estimate system which considered both the income ability and the capital quality, in order to analysis the efficiency of the hotel industry in different areas by the quantitative analysis. Then put forward the policy advices to help advancing the efficiency of hotel, hoping to accelerate the management reform of our hotel industry.
