At the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), it has been proposed that the primary task is to develop the modern agriculture and prosper the rural economy; the foundation of agriculture should be strengthened by following the path of agricultural modernization with Chinese characteristics. It is well known that modern is combined with the evolution and development of tradition. The path of agricultural modernization with Chinese characteristics must be understood and grasped from Chinese agriculture, tradition and change of rural areas. In this article, it focused on preliminary analysis and research of literature and materials for the Chinese, modern agriculture development and change; the study and use for reference from the outcome of Chinese and foreign scholars; the characteristics of farmers and traditional Chinese agriculture; modern Chinese agriculture, rural change and the Chinese revolution; achievements and issues of Chinese agricultural development since the founding of the People's Republic. Furthermore, it preliminarily discussed the basic modernization development path of Chinese future agriculture. To traditional Chinese agriculture and famers, there were both self—sufficiency mainly focused on small farmers who produced due to household consumption, but also agriculture and farmers which produced for the market similar to capitalism "farm" type. Meanwhile, there were more farmers who were being exploited and struggling on the verge of lifeline in the feudal production relations. Generally, it expressed different profile of traditional farmers and agriculture. Compared with European and American traditional agriculture, the largest characteristic of Chinese traditional agriculture was 'the Involution'. In other words, the growth of land productivity had been consumed by the growth of population because there was too much of the population carried on the unit of cultivated land. There was a fragile balance between the two. Since the modern imperialist aggression and plunder, the balance was broken and the bankruptcy of small farmers was accelerated, which further triggered the revolution. After the founding of New China, there has been significant increase in Chinese agricultural production, especially, there has been substantial progress in the cause of farmland irrigation and water conservancy. However, due to the large number of population growth and also the binary system of urban—rural division, it does not ease the "involution" situation of Chinese agricultural. Since the inception of reform and opening—up, the rural policy changes of the party contribute significantly to not only agriculture growth, but also the liberation of farmers. A large number of non—agriculture employments alleviate the "involution" situation. From tradition and changes in Chinese agriculture can be seen, the further development of the modernization of Chinese agriculture should not only be based on agriculture infrastructure, including policy assistance and popularization of science and technology; but also speed up the pace of urbanization and industrialization implemented through development strategy of urban—rural integration.
