The Discussion Of Coal-resources-based City

Resources cities are cities built or developed on the exploitation of resources. These cities are troubled with problems such as exhausted resources, over-staff and comparatively slow and even continuingly decline development on various degree. These problems are most obvious in cities based on coal resources. Industry transformation in resources cities are transformations from resource industries to non-resource-based industries through the development of alternative industries independent of resources. Continuous industry refers to the extension of the original resource industries and industrial chains while development of alternative industries is not directly related to original resources industries.Zaozhuang Municipality is a city built and developed by coal. With the reduction of coal resources, Zaozhuang's economic development has encountered some difficulties and problems which are featured by the following: single industrial structure, extensive mode of economic growth, serious damage to the ecological environment and narrowed employment ect. How to go through these difficulties is currently a major issue in Zaozhuang City. The author believes that based on the social economical realities of Zaozhuang, instead of setting a goal completely divorced from reality and direction the city should gradually free itself from the industrial structure simply relying on coal, cement resources, reduce the volume of coal mining and take the advantage of rich coal resources to lengthen the coal industry chain and increase added value; vigorously develop the coal-fired electricity, coal tar, coal chemical industry in line with the state industrial policy and make coal deep-processing industry a growth industry of strategic advantage. Meanwhile the city should give full scope to the advantages of traditional industries, promote industrial upgrading, enhance market competitiveness, make reasonable choices, develop new industries and continuous industries and enhance the comprehensive capacity for sustainable development.The difficulties and problems Zaozhuang now faced are unique as well as common to cities of the same kind. Therefore, this paper conducted a preliminary exploration on economic and social realities in Zaozhuang to give some reference to the development of Zaozhuang city and other cities of the same kind.
