Study On Choosing Leading Industry For Coal Resources-based Cities In Shanxi

Leading industry is an important factor and it plays an extensive influence on one nation or area's economy and growth. As the point in the economic growth steps, leading industry plays a leading role in the industry structure and this factor determines the whole level and the future of the nation and area's economy. Shanxi is one of the richest coal countries in the world including Datong, Yangquan and etc. However, this large-scale and disorder exploitation leads to the destruction of land resources, severe ground subsidence and environmental degradation, which are grave problems of the people's life. The coal industry is the most important leading industry in Shanxi Province, making the local economy heavily dependent on it. Together with the coal is a non-renewable natural resources. If we do not choose a leading industry and cultivate it in time, the city's economy will face the economic momentum loss. So the coal resources cities in Shanxi province have to solve the project of choosing the future leading industries, which is being concerned by many scholars. And this is our main task in the future. This thesis aims to choose a future leading industry for selected samples—Datong by using the AHP method and building the index system. I expect this method will provide reference for other coal cities.In this thesis, I establish the model of choosing leading industry for Shanxi coal resources cities considering the situation in Shanxi Province and the region's choosing leading industry theory. Then I establish the leading industry choosing index system for Datong by analyzing the domestic and foreign industrial transformation and learning from the more successful areas of practice, combined with the features and principles of the leading industry choosing. Then I choose the 11 optional industries as the target industries, combined with Datong industrial advantages. And at last, I get the future leading industries to develop first for Datong according to the calculation results to the index system and the decision-making weight. Finally, I give my own views.
