Apply Risk Management In Software Test Project

Risks are out there everywhere. Owing to the characteristics of projects such as uncertainty and once-only, the risk that the project faced is much more than other social and economical activities, which is probably also very critical to the consequence of the project, therefore, risk management is urgent and necessary. In traditional conception, test is less important that development. So project risk management is less applied on test. If we can combine project risk management and test when we upgrade the position for test, it'll be great helpful for test project mangers.The risk management contains six stages. They are: risk planning, risk identification, qualitative risk analysis, quantitative risk analysis, risk response planning, risk monitoring and control. Risk planning is the complete set of plans of risk management. Risk identification is defining what kind of risk incident probably influences the item exactly, and puts in order with its characteristics of these risks. Quantitative and qualitative risk analysis is to analyze and estimate the risk that probably exists to the item in probability, consequence, relations between risks and judging the risk level of the whole project. Risk response planning is to determine actions to avoid risks. Risk monitoring is to find new risks and changed risks by continuous monitor.Firstly, author summarizes the development and activity for project risk management. Then, according to plenty of theoretic and methodology to diagnose a case. It contains to diagnose the weakness in risk management project and give the suggestion. Especially in risk identification, qualitative risk analysis, risk response planning, risk monitoring and control aspects. Finally, author explains several problems need to notice when implementing software test project risk management. And long-term investigation and practice will be needed in the whole enterprise, or even the society. Project risk management is not mature in China, so it needs more resources to research it. The points and case diagnose in this paper needs to be further research and complementarities.
