The arrival of the so-called "Information Age" needs middle-level business managers , whose job performance good or not determine the enterprises whether or not achieves their goals, have enough autonomy because of the fast changing of business environment and customer needs . This article finds that there are many research studies on job autonomy abroad and lots of researchers have suggested that job autonomy is very important both in theory and in practice, while there are few research studies on job autonomy but many on learner autonomy in China, on the basis of looking into the reference about job autonomy, job performance and middle-level business managers. And there are no domestic research on job autonomy for middle-level business managers yet and this paper tries to find new ways to improve middle-level business managers' performance from the angle of job autonomy by studying the concept , affecting factors, the structure of it and the relationship in between, reposeing on the achievements of domestic and overseas scholars.Significance of the research can be divideded into two aspects by theoretical and practical significance. Theoretical significance includes improving research systems for middle-level managers' job autonomy, to fix or define the sturcture of middle-level managers' job autonomy and to fix the relations between job autonomy and job performance. Practical significance includes the suggestions to improve middle-level managers' job autonomy, the methods and tools to measure middle-level managers' job autonomy and to the benefit of improving middle-level managers' job performance.The methods and process are as follows, on the basis of summary on job autonomy and job performance, four kinds of hypotheses presented in this article are tested empirically throuth surveys distributed to middle-level managers in enterprises fied over the country. Statistic analysis methods such as item analysis, factor analysis, realibility analysis, validity analysis, variance analysis, correlate analysis and regression analysis are performed in this article. At the end of the article, managerial proposal are discussed to find new ways to improve middle-level business managers' performance from the angle of job autonomy by studying the concept , affecting factors, the structure of it and its relationship with job performance, reposeing on the achievements of the article.Following are four coclusions drew by the author : (1) A low job autonomy level of middle-level managers is found in this research. (2) Middle-level business managers' job autonomy is composed by many first order factors, which can be divided into two general types called mental process and explicit behavior. (3) Positive relations are found between job autonomy and job performance. (4) Significant causal relationship are found between job autonomy and job performance.Innovation of the paper includes the object of study is quite new in domestic design, methods of measurement of the paper is more reasonable than former domestic research on job performance and to give greater scope to range of study on middle-level business managers' job autonomy.
