The spatial cluster of economic activity is an important economic phenomenon in the modern economy. For a long time, the study of this phenomenon has been concentrated in spatial cluster of industries in micro-scale. Until the past two decades, with the development of methods and tools of spatial data analysis, an increasing number of scholars are concerned about the phenomenon of spatial cluster of regional economic growth in macro-scale, and gradually formed the basic theories and models of spatial cluster research of regional economic growth, as well as applied them in empirical research.Adopt ESDA and spatial econometrics model, the most frequently used methods in spatial statistic and spatial econometrics, this paper analysis the cluster of regional economy in prefecture-level cities of six provinces in central China from 1992 to 2007. The main conclusions are made that there is prominent phenomenon of cluster of regional economy in central China, and the strengthen of the cluster intensity must will expand the regional economic disparities of central China. The speed of economic development of the six provinces in central China has greatly impacted by the around cities, and there are different spatial correlation at different times. The cluster of cities which have a low as well as a high growth rate led to an expansion of regional economic disparities, and have greatly restricted the economic development of the central provinces, which slowing down the process of economic growth and regional development. The growth of regional economic in the central provinces, not only have some connection with human capital and capital investment, but also have a certain spatial correlation with the economic growth of the neighboring cities, by taking the spatial fact into the regression model, the explanatory power of explanatory variables has greatly improved. The cooperation of cities is beneficial to narrowing the regional disparities, and promoting the development of the regional economic coordination.
