The Research On The Impact And The Mechanism Of TQM On Innovation Performance

In the past few years, TQM (Total Quality Management) helped many world-class enterprise succeed. It was proven an effective management model that can enhance the core competitiveness of enterprice. Many countries set up their own quality awards to promote TQM, China included. However, with the era of globalization and knowledge-based economy, the competition among the enterprises will be unusually fierce, only who owns the core competence that could survive. Innovation began to be advocated by many enterprises as the core strategy. Some research thought TQM would stifle innovation. On the impact of TQM on innovation, the debate hs lasted many years and they never reach a consensus.With this context, we use the domestic enterprises as the sample of empirical research, exploring the impact of TQM on innovation performance and mechanisms based on organization learning. Firstly, we recall the relative research literatures of Total quality management, organizational learning, innovative performance, and environmental dynamism. Secondly, based on the existing theory and empirical conclusions, this study takes organizational learning and environmental dynamism as the variables in order to explore the influence of TQM on innovation.to explore the direct and indirect effects between TQM and innovation. Thirdly, on the basis of mature scale and open-questionnaire survey, we collected 184 valid questionnaires and verify their reliability and validity. Finally, we completed the statistical analysis with the software of SPSS & Lisrel, and the hypotheses have been confirmed.The conclusions are as follows:(1) There is a direct and positive impact of TQM on innovation. The longer and more radical of the implementation of TQM, the impact of TQM on innovation performance will be more significant. The impact of resources on innovation performance factor isn't significant, indicating the enterprices don't need to worry about the impact of firm size and resources in the implementing of TQM.(2) There is a significant impact of TQM on organizational learning and organizational learning is the key to business innovation.(3) In addition to directly affect the innovation performance, TQM have an indirect effect through the Mediator of organizational learning. The mechanism can be divided into direct and indirect effects(4) The impact of TQM on innovation varies with the different environmental dynamism. In a highly dynamic environment, the impact will be not significant and even negative. In a lowly dynamic environment, the impact will be very significant.(5) TQM and innovation can both succeed within business.The pursue of TQM performance and innovative performance is not conflict as they are both the key role in improving business performance.
