In the wave of knowledge economy and information technology,the product life cycle is greatly shortened,the process of technological innovation is gradually accelerated,and the importance of knowledge and information for firm innovation is increasingly prominent.Under the transition economic system in China,how to make strategic choices in the increasingly fierce competition,how to better integrate resources to enhance their core competitiveness,and how to achieve innovation to maintain a sustained competitive advantage are the focus of strategic management.Scholars in the field of strategic management have gradually realized the importance of TMT as the core unit of firm’s knowledge,skills and information decision-making for firm’s innovation activities,and then explored the impact of TMT operation process on firm innovation performance.Some researches have introduced the concept of TMT behavioral integration,so as to explore the relationship between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance.Scholars have carried out empirical research on the relationship between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance,among which,the scholars usually discuss TMT behavioral integration from three dimensions: cooperation behavior,information exchange and joint decision-making.The existing empirical research shows that TMT behavioral integration has an important impact on firm innovation performance,but the empirical research on the mechanism between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance has not been carried out yet.How does TMT behavioral integration affect firm innovation performance? What is the mechanism? What are the factors influencing the mechanism?Further discussion is needed.This paper discusses the mechanism between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance in Chinese context,and explores the mediation mechanism and moderation mechanism between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance.Based on Upper Echelon Theory and from the perspective of dynamic capability,this paper integrates organizational learning as the mediation effect between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance,environment dynamism and the top-manager proactive personality as the moderation effect into the theoretical model,and analyzes the mechanism of TMT behavioral integration on firm innovation performance.Specifically,this paper will be carried out from the following aspects:first,whether TMT behavioral integration and its dimensions have a positive impact on firm innovation performance;second,whether the mediation role of organizational learning between TMT behavioral integration and its dimensions and firm innovation performance is established,that is,whether TMT behavioral integration will affect firm innovation performance through organizational learning process;thirdly,whether environmental dynamism will play a moderation role in TMT behavioral integration and its dimensions and organizational learning;whether top-manager proactive personality will play a moderation role in organizational learning and firm innovation performance;finally,whether environmental dynamism and top-manager proactive personality will play an moderation role in the mediation effect of organizational learning,that is,whether they can affect the path of TMT behavioral integration through organizational learning to affect firm innovation performance.Based on the existing research and theoretical deduction,this paper puts forward the research hypothesis,and takes the innovative enterprises in Guangdong Province,Fujian Province,Zhejiang Province,Jiangsu Province,Shandong Province and Jilin Province as the samples to conduct a questionnaire survey.Through the investigation of top managers,this study makes statistical analysis on the collected data,and the reliability and validity as well as the common method deviation have achieved the basic request,and verifies the research hypothesis through descriptive statistical analysis,correlation analysis,regression analysis and other statistical methods.The empirical results show that:(1)TMT behavioral integration has a significant positive impact on firm innovation performance,and cooperation behavior,information exchange and joint decision-making have a significant positive impact on firm innovation performance;(2)TMT behavioral integration has a significant positive impact on organizational learning,and cooperation behavior,information exchange and joint decision-making have a significant positive impact on organizational learning;(3)Organizational learning has a significant positive effect on firm innovation performance;(4)organizational learning plays a part of mediation role in TMT behavioral integration and its dimensions on firm innovation performance;(5)environmental dynamism plays a positive role in moderating the relationship between TMT behavioral integration and its dimensions and organizational learning,the higher the environmental dynamism is,the stronger positive effect of TMT behavioral integration on organizational learning is,on the contrary,the positive effect is weaker;(6)top-manager proactive personality positively moderates the relationship between organizational learning and firm innovation performance,the higher top-manager proactive personality is,the stronger positive effect of organizational learning on firm innovation performance is,on the contrary,the positive effect is weaker;(7)environmental dynamism has no significant moderation effect on the mediation effect of organizational learning between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance;(8)top-manager proactive personality has a positive moderation effect on the mediation effect of organizational learning between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance.Based on the above research results,this paper provides a new perspective on the relationship between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance.Firstly,this paper makes a useful attempt to open the black box of the mechanism of TMT behavioral integration on firm innovation performance.The existing empirical research on the mediation mechanism between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance is still lacking.This paper uses organizational learning as the mediation effect to explain the impact path of TMT behavioral integration on firm innovation performance.Secondly,this paper analyzes the moderation effect of external environmental factors and internal characteristics factors on the mechanism between TMT behavioral integration and firm innovation performance from the internal and external factors of environment dynamism and top-manager proactive personality,and analyzes the boundary conditions affecting the mechanism from both macro and micro aspects.Finally,based on the empirical research on the mechanism of TMT behavioral integration on firm innovation performance in the context of China’s transition economy,this paper further promotes the situational research of Upper Echelon Theory,enriches the research perspective of TMT,and promotes the development of the research on TMT behavioral integration and innovation.However,due to the limitations of research samples,data measurement method and Pattern,there are many shortcomings in this study,which should be paid attention to and corrected in the future.At the end of this paper,the possible research directions in the future are given.
