Warehouse Management System (WMS) is an essential IT tool in modern warehousing enterprises of third party logistics. In China, a few warehousing enterprises in reform and transformation put also much emphasis on WMS. However, as statistics shows, because of lack of suitable method for information system planning, service quality and operation efficiency aren't improved as expected in most warehousing enterprises where WMS has been implemented. Therefore, warehouse management information system planning for third party logistics enterprises is taken as object of study in this paper. Comparing with popular information system planning methods at present, this paper put forwards a method of warehouse management information system planning based on Business Process Re-engineering (BPR).This method is helpful for traditional warehousing enterprises which aim to develop as,modern warehousing enterprises of third party logistics.Research in the paper is focused on the process and functionality planning by the new method. Core processes of warehousing operation are firstly planned in respect with BPR's principles and then modeled using extended event driven process chain(e-EPC) method. Based on re-engineered operation processes, functionality planning is done for warehouse management information system in sequence. By the method of U/C matrix, five functionalities are planned. Finally, main sub-functionalities are also planned to support the core operation processes.
