In the era of transformation and upgrading and global purchasing of the firm, Purchasing as a new value-added source has been taped, meanwhile, it has to face many management problems. Strategic purchasing, as a new purchasing management model provides brand-new field of view and thinking for the firm to solve the problems, its has become an emerging and effective means for global leading enterprises to reduce cost and sustain continuable competitive advantage.To study strategic purchasing based on Chinese enterprises, the driving factors and key sucess factors should be researched firstly, which will make a clear recognition of the need for strategic purchasing and influencing factors for safeguarding successful implementation. At the same time, for those factors which will hinder smoothly going of strategic purchasing cannot be ignored. Thus, it is essential to make a systematically research on driving factors, key success factors and barrier factors for strategic purchasing.A large amount of literature on strategic purchasing home and abroad were summarized and analysed in this paper, which layed the foudation for the study going. First, it made comprehensive literature analysis about driving factors, key success factors and barrier factors and it provided theory support for the resrerch. Then, it vertified and amended the factors via case analysis and exploratory interviews, then, a preliminary model was proposed. Based on this, the influencing factors were explored and verified by adopting SPSS 16.0 and AMOS 17.0 according to a scientific and reasonable questionare survey, and lastly interpreted the result of the study by linking theory with practice.The result of this study has demonstrated that key drive factors are the top management perception, complicated purchasing management, the requeest of the firm strategy, the need of the value chain upgrading, the increasing purchasing cost, the anticipation for performance improvement and the reponse to supplier's need. The key success factors include supplier management system, purchasing visibility, professional skills and continuous improvement. The supplier management system is composed of the communication with suppliers, supplier development and long-term relationship orientation. The purchasing visibility contains purchasing status, purchasing integration and top management support. As far as professional skills, it mainly includes purchasing knowledge and skills and IT usage. The continuous improvement consists of people management, system improvement, process improvement and learning organization. The main barrier factors involve the lack of management ability, limited authority, perceived risks, culture barrier and information barrier.
