Research On Formation Of The Puppet Manchuria's Colonial Industrial System

Since modern times, industrialization has been one of our Chinese people's pursuits. The Northeast was also engaged in the industrialization, and even made some progress in it. The industry of Puppet Manchukuo is an important part of the Northeast Modern Economic History, so the research on it is essential for the research on industrialization process of the Northeast. The industrialization process of the Northeast was interrupted by the September 18th Incident and the establishment of Puppet Manchukuo. The industry of Puppet Manchukuo was built on the basis of industry development in the period of the Northeast local government, but meanwhile, it also broke the developing pattern of the Northeast industry before the September 18th Incident. Instead, a colonial industrial system was basically in place. The industrial system was in deformed development, mainly with heavy industry and chemical industry. The formation process showed the Japanese plunder of mineral resources, the distortion of the processing industry and the oppression of the people in Northeast China. Of course, the colonial industrial system which was developed under the Japanese purpose of "war-support-war" also left a few conditions involuntarily for the development of heavy industry in Northeast China.In the thesis, the formation of Puppet Manchukuo's industrial system is the main line. Surrounding it, the formation process is systematically organized, and the characteristics of the process and its consequences are analyzed.The first part reviews developing situations of the Northeast industry before the September 18 Incident, and analyzes the general pattern. This provides a background for the second part the formation process of Puppet Manchukuo's industrial system. During this period, under the background of imperialistic forces'penetrating into the Northeast industry, the development and underdevelopment of national industry in the Northeast is in conformity with developing features of modern Chinese capitalism.The second part sorts out and cites a lot of data. And then, it analyzes the formation process of Puppet Manchukuo's colonial industrial system, presenting its three phases—planning, construction and deformed expansion and collapse. And thus, it shows the formation and evolution course of the colonial industrial system. The colonial industrial system of Puppet Manchukuo is an entirety, consisting of a number of industrial and mining companies as its production units, with a framework made up of Special Corporations, having two pillars—the Manchurian Railways and the Manchuria heavy industry Co., Ltd. All the parts, through the forcing control scheme of the puppet government, form main vertical linkages of industries themselves and subsidiary horizontal linkages among the industries.The third part discusses characteristics which were presented in the formation process of the Puppet Manchukuo's colonial industrial system. The analyses are made from various aspects, and reveal some colonial characteristics of the industrial system, such as deformity, mandatory, predation and dependence.The fourth part summaries and analyses the consequences of the formation of Puppet Manchukuo's colonial industrial system.
