Transformational leadership has become one of the most popular topics of western leadership researches since the 1980s. There have been plenty of researches which validated the western structure of transformational leadership and its effectiveness, however, there are rather few empirical researches related to that in Chinese context. This research is designed to explore the construct of transformational leadership in China and to further develop a Chinese Transformational Leadership Questionnaire (CTLQ) on the basis of Tian's (2009) research.Open questionnaire and context analysis were used to explore the structure and connotation of transformational leadership in Chinese context, and confirmatory factor analysis was used to test Chinese transformational leadership's construct validity. Researchers further developed a Chinese Transformational Leadership Questionnaire (CTLQ) based on Tian's (2009) research. The following is our main findings:Firstly, confirmatory factor analysis support a secondary 4-factor model of the structure of Chinese transformational leadership, which consistent with Bass's theory of transformational leadership. It could be divided into Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Intellectual Stimulation, and Individual Consideration, while each of these 4 main factors could be also subdivided into two sub-dimensions. Specifically speaking, Idealized Influence is subdivided into moral modeling and charisma; Inspirational Motivation is subdivided into articulate vision and favorable recognition; Individual Consideration constitutes by individual development and personal caring; and Intellectual Stimulation is subdivided into creativity stimulation and taking advice.Secondly, the results of reliability analysis and validity analysis both revealed that the Chinese Transformational Leadership Questionnaire is well designed with 31 effective items.
