Transport infrastructure on economic growth can be expressed as two: first, investment in transport infrastructure directly stimulate a region's economic growth by investment multiplier. The second transport infrastructure also has externalities, It does this by affecting spatial transaction costs in a region as well as between different regions, and generate spillover effects of space to affect the enterprise location choice, agglomeration economy, even promote urban and regional development.China's transportation infrastructure construction level showed significant trend decreasing from east to west. From the view of the absolute distance , West road and rail length is significantly longer than central and eastern regions, ranking first in the three regions. Though the road of west region is longest, The length of standard highways especially super highways of the west region is less than the east an central region. Thus, road construction in the western region is mainly in the lower level of the road or even substandard road, and the quality of highway construction is low.In the transport infrastructure network density, as vast as Western Region, highways and railways transport network density was significantly lower than in central and eastern regions. The level of road network, high-grade highways and highway network density in the western region is far behind it in the east, and from the overall situation of China mainland, it shows decreasing trend from east to west. Considering the level of road and railway construction, this paper has integrated transport network density in China mainland, and indicated that the road net wok density of.China has obvious decreasing from the east to the west, since 1985, the eastern region of this target has been better than central and western regions, and the advantages is gradually expanding. The role of geography on economic growth can not be ignored, Remote location posing a major obstacle between western and eastern coastal economically developed provinces to interact. The construction of transportation infrastructure affects the regional economic growth. Therefore, the level of transport infrastructure and geographical location together affect the contacts between the western and the eastern economic centers, also affected the level of economic growth in the western region. In this paper, the concept of Peripheral degree is applied to integrate of these two factors, studying the effect to economic growth in the western region.Through the study, the state of the continuous transportation infrastructure investment and mainland China's transportation network density continuously improving led to the Peripheral degree of the western region decreasing year by year, and this trend will be more obvious into the 20th century, decreasing faster. At the same time, the western region's economy is also showing a rising trend. In this paper, the panel data of western provinces from 1985 to 2008 is applied to study the various factors on the impact of economic growth in the western region. It shows a negative relation between western provinces of Peripheral degree and its economic growth, and simulates the effect of increasing investment in the western region transportation infrastructure. Results show that increasing transport infrastructure investment in the western provinces and degree of economic growth in the western region has different effects, and traffic hub provinces effect more obviously, but generally speaking little effect. This indicates that the situation of improving transport infrastructure in the western region can not effectively change the proximity to the market of coastal provinces, but to close the economic activities in the western. Compared to the western, the improvement of transport infrastructure in central region can effectively improve Peripheral degree in the western region, and be more effective in promoting the region's economic growth, largely because it enhances the proximity between the western provinces and economic center of eastern coastal provinces in market, so that the flow of production factors and products between the eastern and western become easier. Therefore, This proposal, although the western region of China transportation infrastructure gap larger than the other regions, but from the long-term development, the increase in the western region of China in transportation infrastructure construction, while strengthening the western, central, eastern contact . This requires an investment focused on the development of transportation infrastructure in the western and central transportation hub province connecting the western and eastern.
