China and Japan are the core countries in northeast Asia, which are the world's important and trade partners. Due to strong complementarities in agricultural trade between China and Japan, they have very close relationship. For instance, Japan imports 30% to 40% agricultural products from China. In 2001, China's agricultural exports to Japan first exceeded the United States, and in 2008, the amount reached 76.7 billion, which accounts for 19.1%, dropped 8% compared to year 2007. However, with the development between China and Japan, more trade disputes appear. Japan makes the standards which are higher than the world trade organization such as the"new agricultural agreement""animal and plant health inspection and quarantine measures agreement""technical barriers to trade agreement"to restrict China's agricultural products. Therefore, it is very necessary to study the development between the two countries. Using market similarity index, comparative advantage index and net ratio of exports, this paper analyzes the agricultural trade from 1992 to 2008. Based on the above, this paper seeks the development of agricultural trade and provides the scientific basis as well. The study is structured as follows:Chapter 1 is literature reviews.Chapter 2 is the current situation of agricultural trade between China and Japan.Chapter 3 is the agricultural trade between China and Japan based in SITC classification.Chapter 4 is the Empirical research on trade structure, using market similarity index, comparative advantage index and net ratio of exports, this paper analyzes the agricultural trade from 1992 to 2008. Based on the above, this paper seeks the development of agricultural trade and provides the scientific basis as well.Chapter 5 is the conclusion and some policy suggestions. Such like China should adjust the structure of agricultural products actively and make the product diversification, differentiation; Besides, China should seek a way to achieve reciprocal advantages and create a win-win situation, ect.
