With the development of technology, the quality demands for modern manufacturing become higher. For many productions, the quality level is mainly determined by the variations of dimension. Mostly, the manufacturing systems of these productions are considered as multi-stage manufacturing systems. In production process, variation factors from each stage influence others, causes the control and forecast of dimension variations become more complicated.The dissertation based on characteristics of the multi-stage manufacturing system, analyzed the sources and sorts of the dimension variations, and introduced the basic apparatus and technology in dimension measure process. By analyzing the variations control in design process and production process, established the dimension variations control model based on SOV theory, laid basis for the research of MMS dimension variations control.Specific to the dimension variations transmission in each stage, established the geometry dimension model and dimension variation model of the product by vectorial tolerancing model, the location variation model and clamp variation model in production process, and the variation transmission model by using state space theory. By analyzing the assembly process of body in white, established the transmission model of the door assembly process, it also can be used for other production process modeling.
