Road, one of the basic traffic facilities, directly concerns the development of national economics. Since recent years, the rapid development of road construction of our country has made the management level of the road unable to meet the need of development of the road. Applying GIS technique to the road construction and management of our country is a high-efficient and important foundation works of building the backbone of national road of our country and is one of the important means to push road construction an d management into modernization. In this paper, the characteristic and the appliation advantages of WebGIS are discussed. In view of the road operations and the specialty of WebGIS,so I lay stress on the realization details of route analyzing, coordinate transformation, thematic map and peg orientation.Owing to introducing the optimize arithmetic,so the speed of searching shortcut of two points is remarkably quickened. Based on this works, The essay also cites an example of using ArcIMS for GIS application software, which is "Road Web Geographical Information System of Guangdong Province". By practice it proves feasible and efficient to use these system design and the optimize arithmetic on programme for GIS Software development. The road GIS system based on Web can offer kinds of functions such as searching data, analyzing data, statistical data, route analyzmg, themetic map, peg orientation, and it can also offer effective aids to making decision on road quality measuring, assessment and disease analyzing. The work and achievement made in this paper offers the experience that can be used for reference to development of Road Information System to Intelligent Road Information System.
