With the development of military thematic geographic information digitizing and broad application of databases, heterogeneity phenomenon exists between thematic geographic databases. To make good use of existing data resources and realize data sharing, it is necessary to do application research about heterogeneous databases and heterogeneous databases interoperation is inescapable.Heterogeneous databases interoperation echnique is a new research field. The paper discussed heterogeneous databases interoperation concept and target and analyzed its strategy. Core idea of heterogeneous databases interoperation is data sharing and transparent accessing. At the angle of application, a effective method is to design a databases interoperation system.The paper studied key technique of heterogeneous databases interoperation. Aiming at heterogeneous databases mode phenomenon, common data model was put forward. It studied data conversion and extraction between heterogeneous databases and realization process. Though studies about key technique, based on ODBC, the paper designed a databases interoperation system with friendly interface. The system allows users get access to heterogeneous databases transparently and provides software support for military thematic geographic data integration.Heterogeneous databases interoperation is related to distributed computing, so the paper studied CORBA technique. Databases interoperation based on CORBA technique, from theory level,is the best method. It studied databases interoperation method based on CORBA, and, at the angle of theory and application, discussed the design of heterogeneous databases interoperation.
