The automatic pick of seismic first arrivals is a foundationalproblem in Seismic Exploration. It plays a key role in seismic dataprocessing such as refraction static correction, VSP data interpretation,shallow refraction exploration and seismic tomography, as the first breaktime directly influences inversion result of the speed and slowness of theunderground stratum structure.Firstly, the paper introduces the characteristics of the seismic dataacquisition system in different period and the theory of first breakdetection, such as algorithm of ratio of energy, algorithm of fractaldimension, algorithm of neural network and algorithm of edge detection.Based on the methods of first breaking and the time windows attributes ofseismic sounding for picking up first breaking, an improved energy ratiofirst arrival pick-up algorithm was proposed through the theoreticresearch of different initial automatic pick-up methods. The algorithmwas improvemed on two aspects, one is that the amplitude energy wasreplaced by the wave envelop energy, which can pick up the first breaktime well under the faint first arrival, the other is that the rollingtime-window method was used to displace the static time-windowdivision, in order to pick up the first arrival efficiently. The new methodwas not only effective theoretically, but also acted better in realapplication than some other automatic pick methods.Based on the improved energy algorithm and actual need of singlehole velocity layer detect method, the corresponding data sampling andinterpretational software was designed, which is also calledthree-component logging software, using the Visual C++6.0, withconsidering the current oscillation synthetic test system hardware. Theprogram's main functions are as follows: document management, theseismic data collection, profile operation, data processing and explanation,result output, and so on. The main program code was provided in theappendix. The logging software system embracing the modularizationdesign will give a good foundation for improving and transplanting the logging software latter. Finally, the software effectiveness andmaneuverability was tested through the simulation of three-componentlogging experiments.
