With the continuous development of science and technology, the improvement of the industrial automation and the increasing intelligent levels of equipment, the traditional mining industries face a great challenge. As of today, underground mine is directed toward information, equipment intelligence, remote manipulation control and many other intersectional fields. In view of the current survey, intelligent mine, remote control robots and non-attended mining has been realized abroad. However, the intelligent level of underground mining is still at the beginning stage in China due to the limitation of the intelligent level of mining equipment. Remote control is a crucial filed for the mining equipment. Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) is the key equipment of the underground mining. Therefore, for a long time strategic consideration, it is necessary to develop a remote LHD with self-owned intellectual property to meet the need of the domestic market.First of all, in this paper, we review the background of LHD and its development in terms of the current existing literatures. Then, the related key technologies are introduced. Further, some results are summarized.Driveline is an important component of LHD. This paper extensively investigates the selection of power plant, the match of the engine and torque converter. Based on it, qualitative analysis is performed. Consequently, engine, torque converter and gearbox are selected according to the previous result.Hydraulic system is a device that transfers energy and control the LHD. The electronic control of the hydraulic system is required to realize remote control for the LHD. In order to be convenient for further analysis, the fundamental theory of the hydraulic system of the JCCY2 LHD is studied. Then, the modified scheme of the hydraulic system is established. Hence, the electrical modification of the hydraulic system is completed.In the process of the optimal design for working device, the mathematical model of optimization design is constructed based on transmission ratio of the turnover mechanism. Afterwards, penalty function and Powell function are used to optimize the objective function. The results show that the transmission ratio of the turnover mechanism is improved and the force of the bucket is enhanced.Vehicle control system is the core of the remote LHD. After the functional requirement and design conditions of vehicle control system are analyzed, the main control unit-PAC System is determined. Considering the linear network of the distributed control structure, architecture of the Vehicle control system is completed. According to the functional requirement and the number of the monitor parameters, the hardware selection of the vehicle control system is determined.
