With the rapid emerging and development of green chemistry, technology innovation's propulsion has concentrated in two aspects of environmental friendly and economy during the past decade. More and more scientists focus on the organic synthesis in environment-friendly medium instead of harmful organic solvent, such as water, supercritical fluid and ionic liquids etc. In conclusion, water is a better choice than others in similar conditions duo to the lower cost.In this paper, on the basis of summarizing literature, we continued to study new research topics and broaden the research field, the results are as follows:Firstly, a novel approach to the synthesis ofβ-hydroxyketone between nitro aromatic aldehydes with ketones in aqueous media without catalyst was described. This method provided several advantages such as simple work-up, milder condition and good yield. In addition, water was chosen as the reaction media because of cheap, safety and environmental friendly. We optimized reaction conditions and gave a proposal mechanism.Secondly, using water as a green solvent, electrophilic substitution reactions of indoles with various aldehydes proceeded smoothly catalyzed by ferric sulfate to afford the corresponding bis(indolyl)methanes in high yields and the catalyst mechanism was studied. This method had many advantages such as simple operation, high yield, readily available catalyst and broad range of the products. Thus it has potential application value and academic significance in the pharmaceutical industry.
