With the development of the science and technology and the social progress in the resent decades, mathematics, this important basic discipline, has permeated into natural and social science rapidly and also been exerting ever growing influence on engineering technology, economic construction and financial management. The combination of mathematics and computer science has become an important and realizable technique. It has been widely accepted that the hi-tech is essentially a mathematics technology. However, a practical problem, including problems in science and technology does not appear in the form of mathematics naturally. Thus, the first step is to transform the practical problem into a mathematics one, namely the establishment of the mathematical model, which is of vital importance. Accurate data and reliable guidance can only be provided by the employment of mathematics conceptions, methodology and theories to carry on analysis and research both quantitatively and qualitatively.Magnetic separation column, which is a newly developed magnetic separation equipment, has found its wide application in concentration plants due to its advantages such as convenience, flexibility and good mineral processing index etc.. However, as other mineral processing equipments, a large number of lab and industrial experiments are needed to be carried out for every application of magnetic separation column, which is not only a great waste of financial, labor resources and materials but also poses an obstacle for its popularization. Herein, the effects that had influence on the separation performance, such as magnetic force, hydraulic drag and the properties of the particles were analyzed from a mathematics perspective and the magnetic separation column indexes forecasting models for different particle properties, current and water ascending velocities were established based on a large number of mathematics models in this study. Meanwhile, computer simulation of the mathematics model of the magnetic separation column was achieved via Visual Basic6.0.The forecast of the separation indexes could be obtained not only via the regulation of general separation parameters, such as current and the water ascending velocities, but also via structure parameters design according to specific separation requirements by this model. The mathematics model was simplified to the model of magnetic separation column concentrate recovery and concentrate grade due to the complexity of the separation process of magnetic separation, large number of influence factors and the limitation of the conditions in this study.The concentrate recovery and grade could be forecast for different particle properties, current and water ascending velocities by this model via numerous adjustments and validation and the regulation of the concentrate recovery and grade could also be achieved for different current and water ascending velocities dynamically on the computer.
